Dow Steam Header Compliance Project

After a competitive RFQ process, Performance Contractors was selected for the Steam Header Compliance project at Dow, St. Charles. The project had two parallel (Legacy & Post Legacy) for the 600#, 200#, and 75# steam systems. The purpose of this project was to provide cross-ties between the header systems to allow isolation and repairs of existing steam leaks.

Each of the system cross-ties into the steam headers required an outage to complete the work. That meant there were three planned outages, each consisting of only one week to make more than 70 large bore tie-in welds. Normally, the general contractor works more closely with the engineering or construction team. Because of the type of work being performed and the number of process shutdowns required during a capital project, Performance had to work closely with the Dow Operations team. This challenging and unique project was successful due to the tremendous collaboration efforts between these two groups as well as their adaptiveness when problems arose.
