Highlighting Our Veterans: Jacky Suchanek

From the quiet community of Hackberry, Louisiana to the active job sites of Performance Contractors, John Wayne “Jacky” Suchanek has always carried with him a steadfast sense of duty. Jacky served over six years in the U.S. Army, enlisting at age 27 as an E-4 Specialist. Stationed at Fort Sill, Oklahoma, he embraced every challenge with grit and optimism. “You may be stationed at the will of the Army,” Jacky said, “but you’ll be afforded opportunities you wouldn't get anywhere else. You just have to accept what you can’t change and put in the work for the rest.”

A grandson of a World War II veteran, Jacky’s early curiosity about military service eventually became a calling. His time in uniform gave him confidence, discipline, and a deep appreciation for selfless service—values he carried into his civilian career.

“I had worked in construction before I served,” he said. “So when I returned, I realized the long hours, travel, and adaptability weren’t a challenge—they were strengths I could bring to a career to support my family.”

Today, Jacky serves as a Crane & Rigging Coordinator at Performance Contractors with a focus on crane assembly and disassembly, following nine years as a crane operator. His 11-year career with the company reflects not only his technical skill but also a leadership style rooted in humility and teamwork. “Leadership is about knowing you have something to learn from everyone you meet,” Jacky said. “And sharing what you’ve learned so the team grows stronger.”

Jacky credits Performance’s supportive environment and sense of camaraderie for helping him continue to grow post-military. “It’s not just a team—it’s a family,” he shared. “From site to site, there’s a brotherhood here that reflects the same values I knew in the service.”

When he’s not on the job, Jacky enjoys time with his wife, Eve, and makes the most of Louisiana’s great outdoors—fishing, hunting, and recharging with nature.

His advice to fellow veterans considering a career at Performance? “While Performance may not have the same structure as the military, it lives by the same values. Patriotism, brotherhood, and pride in doing the job right—those are lived here every day.”
