Highlighting Our Veterans: Carlos Ruiz

Upon graduating high school in July of 1998, Carlos Ruiz joined the Marines. He first attended basic training in San Diego, then his Marine Combat Training at Camp Pendleton, California, before finally rounding out his training as a Food Service Specialist at Fort Lee, Virginia. Once his training had been completed, Carlos was stationed with the 6th Marines at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina for the remainder of his service. While based out of Camp Lejeune, he was also given the opportunity to travel abroad, including visits to Spain and Greece.

Growing up, Carlos had always held veterans in high regard – he valued highly what those who served had given for the greater good – especially his uncle who served in the Navy. His uncle was the inspiration to join JROTC in High School where he decided as a 9th grader that he wanted to give back and do his part in serving our country. The skills he learned beginning then and up through his entire service have led him to becoming a sound leader and given him skills that translated directly into his position with Performance Contractors.

Today, Carlos works in Workforce Development and Training with Performance in Texas. His first job was back in 2014 when he worked in the Safety Department at the Rosharon Fab Shop. After holding several different positions in safety, he landed in his current role of workforce development where he helps shape the Performance team.

His time in the service is a big part of what makes him such a good fit for his current role. The Marine Corps taught Carlos to take pride in being part of something bigger than himself. It helped shape his outlook on life to be one that was focused outward, on the team, instead of inward on himself.

Carlos is a family man, so when he’s not working he’s spending time with his wife and six children. They love spending time together outdoors, camping and hiking at every chance they get. You can also find him riding across the country on his Harley with friends and family on long road trips, including his annual Easter weekend trip to the Frio River in Texas HIll Country.

Strong leaders, servants and characters like Carlos are what make our company, and our country, so special. From all of us at Performance, we thank you for your service both to our country and to our team.
