The Vopak Propylene Glycol Export Upgrade Project marked a major expansion of Dock #1 at Vopak’s Plaquemine, Louisiana facility. This ambitious initiative modernized and broadened Vopak’s export capabilities, unlocking the flexibility to move Monopropylene Glycol (MPG), Dipropylene Glycol (DPG), and Tripropylene Glycol (TPG) by marine vessel, truck, rail, and ISO container. New tank connections and rail loading upgrades transformed the terminal into a true global distribution hub.
Vopak partnered with Performance Contractors as the general and mechanical contractor to bring this vision to life. The work included the ground-up installation of 6 tons of steel, as well as the installation and testing of approximately 6,619 linear feet of specialized process piping, requiring 7,873 weld inches on very fragile, high-tolerance thin-walled Schedule 10 - 304L stainless steel pipe. In addition, 17 pieces of precision process equipment were set with exacting tolerances to meet strict operational standards. The work was executed across ninety-one active acres without disrupting ongoing operations, a testament to disciplined planning and coordination.
Over the course of more than 25,000 work hours, the project team delivered with zero recordable incidents (TRIR 0.0) and an unmatched 0% weld reject rate, a testament to safety, craftsmanship, and quality.
Through a seamless one-team approach, Vopak and Performance Contractors delivered a milestone project that expanded critical infrastructure, elevated safety and quality standards, and strengthened Vopak’s global supply capabilities. Working shoulder to shoulder, the team overcame challenges and aligned around shared goals, ultimately exceeding expectations and positioning Vopak to meet growing global demand for product imports and exports. The project provided opportunities for local craftsmen, ABC member partners, and apprentices to refine stainless-steel welding skills under one of the region’s most stringent quality programs.
